As well as recognising and placing great importance on the learning aspects which are the driving force of U3A, we also recognise the tremendous value of social activities and the relevant benefits for its members - especially in relation to developing a community spirit!

Whether you have lived in Woodley district for many years or are a relatively new arrival, live with a partner or on your own, we very much hope that there will be something for everyone to enjoy which will enhance your learning experiences and widen your circle of new friends!

Below are examples of social events that we consider members may enjoy. As we plan our annual social calendar, it is extremely helpful for us to know which activities would prove most popular with our members, welcoming feedback and further suggestions at our monthly meetings. As they are organised, planned social events will appear on our Diary page.

Wednesday Coffee Afternoons at The Waterside, Fairwater Drive, Woodley - providing new members with an opportunity to meet some committee members and also experience a relaxed and friendly introduction to some of our longer standing members and their group activities. We will be able to have use of the garden on sunny days! This venue will also be used by our Mid-Week and Sunday lunch groups for some of their outings.

Quiz Afternoons in the attractive restaurant area of the Waterside, Woodley. Number of sessions offered will depend on demand but we are expecting these sessions to be popular. Emphasis will be on learning and fun, with a prize for the winning team! If you are interested in taking part, get in touch with the Social Events Team. Experienced Quiz Masters especially welcome!

Treasure Hunt in and around Woodley, testing your knowledge of the local area and culminating in a prize for the winners and a meal at a local venue or a picnic - depending on the location of the final clue.

Trip to Sonning Mill Theatre. Set on the banks of the River Thames, The Mill Theatre provides a unique experience which includes a two-course meal and a show in a beautiful converted water mill. Shows include plays, Sunday evening concerts with something for everyone - Jazz, Country & Western, Rock n Roll or Pop, and Magic Nights.

Coffee and Cakes at the Waterwheel Bar, Sonning Mill. Hot bar food is also available from midday, including paninis, sharing boards and homemade soup. There is a beautiful riverside terrace for summer days.
